Perspective on American Election 2016

In a rare break from the theological insights normally posted here, the recent outrage over Donald Trump’s victory has prompted this article.

While sincere empathy for all the frustrated protestors is warranted, tolerance for civil disobedience is NOT.  A perspective that is not being widely shared is that of God’s miraculous intervention into human affairs. Therefore, please give prayerful consideration to the following.

Just as we now pray for peace to be restored in America, if we truly value the power of prayer – we must understand that MUCH prayer went up regarding this election, prior to the results. We can ill afford to remain unsettled through double-mindedness.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.  But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.  For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;  he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” – Jas. 1: 5-8.

Trump’s election defied ALL expectations, as has been his ‘track-record’ since he 1st announced his bid for office. Like ALL God-chosen vessels, he has been rejected and ridiculed by his opposition, and made a mockery. This is NOT to infer that Trump is above reproach, but remember, no man or woman ever chosen by God (other than His Incarnation in Christ) was a perfect person. God chose harlots, murderers, saboteurs, scoundrels, and the like through which to perform His miraculous will.

Scripture contains many of accounts of individuals in whom God had a special interest and ordained, protected, and guided throughout their life. Nearly 150 years before Cyrus was born, the prophet Isaiah foretold that God had foreordained this man to be his anointed servant and protected and guided the events of his life in order for him to fulfill his specific destiny.

“In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom” – 2Chron. 3622; Ezra 1:1.

“[God] says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd, And he shall perform all My pleasure, Saying to Jerusalem, “You shall be built,” And to the temple, “Your foundation shall be laid” – Isa. 44:28.

Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belshazzar. The message was true, but the appointed time was long; and he understood the message, and had understanding of the vision” – Dan. 10:1.

As the non-Jewish King Cyrus of Persia was chosen BEFORE even his birth to enact God’s will in returning the Jews to Israel, so have many of us been used by God to usher in His perfect will, while yet imperfect beings.

In order to exact a lasting and complete change in the direction America is heading – a complete elimination of the leadership opposed to righteousness had to take place. Only those who were NOT inclined to the clear signs of God’s intervention in these events missed the miraculous hand of God, and therefore fail to realize that they are NOT protesting Trump, but God’s invasion once again into human affairs.

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” – 2Chron. 7:14.

The fact that election also produced a favorable majority in both legislative bodies of government is a miracle, and only God produces miracles. Christians who are worried about the results of this election need to prayerfully consider this perspective and allow the peace of God to rule. Statistically, more Evangelicals voted for Trump than either Romney, Bush, or Obama. Of course the ungodly are confused, but Christians who trust God need NOT be! Christians prayed, God answered.

  1. Amen, I’m with you there!

I too grow impatient, but I also feel the weight of a failed education system, failed leadership, perhaps even the failure of the church, because so many of these people are simply products of their environment, ripe for the picking and easily led astray. Personal responsibility needs to kick in there too, it’s just that we reap what we sow and these protests are the result of failures that began long ago.

On the bright side, they’re also evidence of a healthy and thriving democracy. Messy, ugly, irritating, but freedom I guess, sometimes includes the freedom to behave poorly.

    • Thank you for your reply; it is another encouragement that I’m not a ‘lone ranger’ in combating the naïve misinterpretations of real democracy. The gift of balance between our responsibilities to this world system and the theocracy that rules our spirituality are unfortunately rather dim at times – for far too many people.

Obviously, there are the atheists and agnostics that don’t even perceive any need for such balance, much less strive for it. But, those believers among us who sincerely desire to have God rightly honored in BOTH realities often lack the necessary CONVICTION to rest in the enduring peace a proper balance provides.

Because FAITH is frequently confused as being synonymous with CONVICTION, many have been left powerless to overcome the daily bombardment of influences that compete against their FAITH – the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see, yet awaiting fulfillment.

CONVICTION is quite different from FAITH in that it is a deep-seated evidence of what we actually ARE already – our perpetual state of being. A conviction is something certain, whereas FAITH is what we HOPE for, but have NOT yet attained. Whenever people’s FAITH is challenged, there is always a chance that a more convincing argument might amend it. CONVICTIONS on the other hand, are the ‘moral-compass’ that keeps us on course because they are intrinsic to our sense of KNOWING, rather than mere FEELING. Ergo, we STAND for ‘something’ lest we FALL for anything. Peace!

  2. I hear you Mark but I disagree. The popular vote went to Hillary. I feel the political, economic, social, cultural, and religious systems in the USA, in my humble opinion, are broken. To solve the major problems confronting America today requires that both parties work together and compromise. Let’s see if Trump can bring us together. If he continues to embrace hate, anger, prejudice, control, and domination, America is in for a tough time. My humble solution is that we need a revolution in spiritual consciousness. All the answers to any problems are within our heart and soul. . Just my opinion. Peace, Light, Joy, and Love. Gary

  3. Gary, thank you for your response, even though you disagree. You know from our other correspondence that I am sure that there is a PERSONAL UNIQUE SUPREME BEING commonly referred to by many as ‘God’, but NOT truly KNOWN by many as their personal SAVIOR, and therefore rightful FATHER.

The CONVICTION I spoke of in the above post is something that is because a personal encounter with true GOD has occurred, permanently planting the CONVICTION. (You shall KNOW the TRUTH; the TRUTH shall set you free). Once the CONVICTION is seated, all doubt, confusion, guessing, hoping or searching for true God, right religion and spirituality ceases.

The CONVICTION is actually a realization that God the Holy Spirit permanently resides IN you, guiding you, preserving you, anointing you, and empowering you to spread the TRUTH throughout the world.
Although such statements may easily be perceived as arrogant by those who lack such CONVICTION, an ever-present humility accompanies it, because KNOWING true GOD is also KNOWING that it is a KNOWLEDGE that can NOT be earned. What God has done for me, He has done for ALL humanity.

Sincere and humble gratitude of ALL that God has done to provide His free gift is the ONLY requirement for obtaining such CONVICTION. An acknowledgement of THAT GOD, forsaking ALL others, becomes an abiding CONVICTION. A person either has it, or NOT – but if one has it, they KNOW it and they understand that it is equally available to everyone, so there is NO pride or self-righteousness attached to it – in fact, the exact opposite! Peace.

  4. I have no idea if Donald Trump will fix things or mess things up even more. I am hoping for a revival, but I don’t know if Trump is genuine. I just know he seems to be genuine, and his nominations could a whole lot worse. I just know H. Clinton promised to be disaster.

Anyway, we need to do as you suggest, keep praying. We also need to help the man when he is trying to do the right thing. To succeed every good leader needs good followers.
